Rebound Therapy: Bouncing Towards Better Outcomes

Rebound therapy uses a trampoline as a therapeutic tool to improve movement, communication, and sensory processing. Here's how it helps the children we work with.

When most people think of a trampoline, they think of garden play. But at Every Sensation, our trampoline is a serious therapeutic tool — and the results can be remarkable.

What Is Rebound Therapy?

Rebound therapy is a specialist intervention that uses the movement of a trampoline to provide therapeutic exercise and recreation for people with a wide range of needs. It was developed in the 1970s and is now widely used in special education and therapy settings across the UK.

Our trained rebound therapists control the bounce to provide the right level of movement for each child. Sessions are always one-to-one, with the therapist on the trampoline alongside the child.

Who Benefits?

Rebound therapy can benefit children with:

  • Cerebral palsy and physical disabilities
  • Autism spectrum conditions
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Developmental delay
  • Down syndrome
  • Limited mobility or muscle tone differences

Key Benefits

Physical

The trampoline provides a unique environment where gravity alternates between increased and decreased. This helps improve balance, coordination, muscle tone, and postural control. Children who have limited movement on solid ground often show increased range of motion on the trampoline.

Sensory

The rhythmic bouncing provides deep proprioceptive input, which can be incredibly regulating for children with sensory processing needs. Many children find the vestibular (balance) input calming and organising.

Communication

The excitement and enjoyment of bouncing often motivates communication. Children may vocalise, use signs, or make eye contact more readily during rebound sessions. It's a powerful context for building interaction.

Safety First

All our rebound therapy sessions are delivered by qualified rebound therapists who have completed recognised training. The trampoline is in a dedicated space with safety padding, and strict protocols ensure every session is safe and enjoyable.

Rebound therapy is available as part of our tailored support packages. Speak to our team to find out if it could benefit your child.
