We understand that starting with a new service can feel overwhelming — both for your child and for you as a parent or carer. That's why we've designed our first-visit experience to be as warm, relaxed, and informative as possible.
Before You Arrive
Once your referral is confirmed, a member of our team will contact you to arrange a convenient time. We'll ask about your child's needs, preferences, and any specific requirements so we can prepare properly.
We'll also send you a simple information pack that includes:
- A visual guide to our building (photos of the entrance, rooms, and key staff)
- A 'What to bring' checklist
- Contact details for your assigned keyworker
When You Arrive
Our building is purpose-built for children with additional needs. From the moment you walk in, you'll notice it's designed to feel calm, safe, and inviting. A staff member will greet you at reception and show you around at your child's pace.
There's no rush. If your child needs time to adjust, we'll take it. If they want to explore a particular room, we'll follow their lead.
The Assessment Session
The first visit usually includes an informal assessment where we observe how your child interacts with different environments and activities. This might involve:
- Time in the sensory room with bubble tubes, soft lighting, and tactile surfaces
- A short activity — perhaps music, sand play, or art
- A chat with you about your child's history, strengths, and goals
This isn't a test — it's about understanding your child as a whole person.
After the Visit
Following the first session, we'll put together a proposed plan of support. This will outline the sessions, therapies, and activities we recommend, along with the goals we'll work towards. You'll always be involved in shaping this plan.
We're here to support your family every step of the way. If you have questions before, during, or after your first visit, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
